The Pollinator Garden at Bennett’s Creek Park features a raised bed 20 feet long and 4 feet wide. Cheryl Remmick, Barb Taber, and Clark Taber rebuilt the bed during the summer of 2023. By fertilizing the bed with composted manure, we actively try to keep grass and weeds at bay without the use of herbicides and try for pest management without chemical pesticides.
Master Gardener work days are variable. We currently have three active participants, who take turns checking the bed and doing what needs to be done (weeding, deadheading, pest management, etc.).
In the spring of 2024, we intend to add more Lavender, Calendula, Black-eyed Susan, Parsley, Marigolds, and Milkweed into the bed. The garden’s location makes it a beautiful focal point for visitors to observe a wide variety of pollinators, insects, butterflies even songbirds.
